Hoping to sleep as long as I could after the tiring travel, I opened my eyes when the sun was streaming brightly through the windows. Checking the time, I was shocked to see it was 5.30am!

Busy Bee me fixed up the rest of the bikes then headed off to find breakfast while Renata and kids continued to sleep.

The best part of breakfast was the free flow prosciutto ham and the fact that kids eat free!

Ethan thinks the view of the train tracks was equally as good as the prosciutto ham. They joined me and then we headed off.

Outside our hotel, this is our very first bike picture before heading off on our grand adventure – our first family bike tour!

We passed through the cobble-stone lines old town of Regensburg.

And criss-crosses the Danube on a small pedestrian-only bridge.

Our first sighting of the Danube entranced is!

We hit the open paths and the countryside and cycled onward, starting what would be a 53km day.

We found a great cafe and ordered the strawberry dessert as it’s strawberry season!

The kids enjoyed the swing and Daddy too!

Talia has matured so much since our last overseas bike trip which wasn’t really a tour.

She was only 8.5 years old then but now at 10.5 years old with 2 triathlons under her belt she is very confident!

Ethan and Talia chatted a lot as they rode. He made his sister laugh so much that at the end of the day she said her stomach hurt but her legs didn’t!

We saw many species of birds, a lot of ducks and a pair of swans – all of which made Talia very happy! Animals are the best part of a country-side ride for her!

Some of the roads were smooth but the final kilometers into Straubing were tiring! A headwind and gravel roads made the distance feel longer than it was. The views made up for it though!

We were all tired and glad to arrive in Straubing. The town square did not disappoint!

Dinner didn’t disappoint either. We had a liver soup…

A kids size schnitzel (which looked adult size), pork knuckle and a steak! It was a bit too much and later we figured out that we should order 2 mains and 1 soup for all 4 us!

The room at Donaulodge was lovely but we forgot to take a photo. We did the laundry and I was snoring within 3 minutes of touching the pillow!
