The NH Defendorff was our best deal hotel so far and very comfortable! We left in the cool morning and searched for breakfast.

We bought incredible strawberries from a fruit seller and opened them in a a cafe. Talia was especially pleased! They were so good we bought another kilogram of cherries and strawberries for later!

Goodbye Degendorff!

Wildflowers! Wildflowerss!

For some reason, Ethan is fascinated with porta-toilets! No doubt you will see photos or a video of the inside of this “Toi Toi” on his blog.

We stopped for a break at a nice picnic bench and pulled out the strawberries and cherries! The strawberries were as good as Japanese ones, and the cherries were softer than the expensive ones we buy in Singapore, no doubt cos they were ripened locally!

After lunch, Talia saw me stretching my calf while riding and showed me her stretch! This is what happens when an ex-gymnast rides a bike. Plus she can do a very low tri tuck with a perfectly horizontal back and pedal no problem!

As we passed a tony town I saw a butcher! We bought prosciutto, salami and regular ham for lunch.

One of my favorite parts of the day of was our lunch picnic. I carried a small groundsheet, folding knife and spork for just this purpose!

Only in Germany will you find an arch made of beer crates!

We crossed a huge dam. In Korea we had cycled across many which stood out as being so modern. This dam stood out in it being built in an older era with solid bricks! The technology at that time must have been so advanced!

Lush paths crept under railways bridges to bring us into the center of Passau.

Passau was quite a big city and we cycled through the main streets which are pedestrian friendly, with the occasional car crawling through.

Our hotel was wonderful, in the centre of town. So far the hotels don’t mind our kids staying for free with us. However some do have strict (unfriendly) rules!

Washing up in our hotel room we discovered that Ethan had worn a hole in his bike shorts padding! That little backside sure had done some miles in Korea. So we went back to a bike shop that we had just passed, hoping to find bike shorts. We were very fortunate to find not only Ethan’s size but Talia’s size too. So I bought Passau pants as a practical memento and replacement of Ethan’s holey shorts.
