We left Gasthof Maly, surprised and thankful for its modern level of comfort and the swimming pool!

The kids were rearing to go! We were the last cyclists the leave that morning!

We crossed the Danube on a high bridge. The traffic was heavy but we had our own path.

Immediately after the bridge we entered a wooded area.

Which led to another small bridge, this one only for cyclists and pedestrians. I think it was recently rebuilt because it looked very new!

Renata smiled happily for a photo in front of the new wooden bridge!

We made good time and the kids got into a good groove.

In a small town we saw this very old dam that would have been used to control the flow of water perhaps a hundred years ago. It looks like it was still there for decorative purposes.

On the drops Talia! Here you can see Talia’s great posture and her superior flexibility. With her core strength she will be able to hold an aero position very comfortably in coming years.

I had been dreaming of cycling the EuroVelo 6 for a long time.

Now I am doing it with my family! I can’t go as fast or as far with them, but it sure is wonderful to see them out enjoying the fresh air and countryside, and building great memories together.

At one test stop, Ethan regressed into baby mode and took a bottle from mummy!

A steep gravel incline to another bridge meant pushing our bikes.

Talia much prefers the open road! She would be a good climber when she is older but.m she likes it flat!

Soon we were in pear country and found a superb restaurant that had a large wooden pear. This venue was heavily booked and very popular. The pear cider was amazing!

Renata and orders the pork ribs which was deliciously crusty instead of slathered in sauces as is more typical. I must try to recreate this o e day!

We were absolutely stuffed and I was a a bit light headed as I didn’t realize the pear cider was 13% alcohol!

We followed the curves of the Danube

And sometimes dipped inland, adjacent to huge rocky outcrops.

Every once in a while we cross a bridge or take a ferry to the other side of the Danube.

We were nearing our destination of Grein.

Where we enjoyed gelato that is so wonderful everywhere we go!

Taking a walk up to a castle we found wild strawberries down a small path. The kids love to pick and eat them!

We walked around Grein, up a steep slope to a castle which we didn’t want to pay 7 € to see the inside of!

Leaving Grein we cycled 3km to the pension I found nearby as the places in Grein were rather overpriced.

It was located on the hillside overlooking the Danube. We crossed a rail track.

This is the view from the garden of Worthbauer!

The family that runs it serves you out of their kitchen. 3 guest families were there that evening. We ate a huge beef meatball/sausage that the kids loved. It’s an Austrian speciality along this section of the Danube!

After dinner we lazed in the garden in the cool evening air, chatting and relaxing.

The Worthbauer brought out some pancake type of the dessert which the kids gobbled up quickly!
