The forecast predicted rain, and this was also the day we would take the train a short way of about 50km to skip some traffic on roads and ride another 40km into Esztergom.

We said goodbye to the rabbits, chickens and quails and set off. Ethan and Talia would have been very happy spending 2 nights with the animals!

We were riding a few kilometers to the train station but a church procession blocked the way! We couldn’t tell what was going on but there was quite some fanfare!

Finally we got moving and found our OBB train. Ethan explores it quickly and found it had this kids corner with cartoons where about six kids could sit on the floor and watch!

He thought it was a great idea and any train perks him up!

We got off at the sad little town of Almasfuzito. It used to be the place of a mining in Soviet times and not it was really run down!

We began to ride with the most traffic on the whole route up to now. It’s for this reason that I don’t recommend most families cycle past Bratislava. But fortunately Ethan and Talia are accustomed to road riding with me, are unafraid and listen to my firm instructions.

Talia was pretty tired and we found a roadside food stop. It was the first time ordering what we would later recognize as common cheap eats – hekk, a deep fried salty fish, and langos, a deep fried bread usually rated with garlic, sour cream and cheese!

We set off again with a light rain coming down. The kids soldiered on! I was glad they had one harder day as this is part of life’s lessons I want them to instinctually imbibe.

We spotted a gas station and headed in. They had nice seats and hot drinks!

The ride and the views weren’t pretty in this section. we could have taken the train all the way to Esztergom but it was still good to ride!

Nearly there, we were glad we had each other and were safe on the wet roads.

We rolled into Esztergom and cycled along the canals.

The centre of town was pretty and we had booked a highly rated room near it.

We had time for a cafe stop and yummy desserts! Then we checked in and got washed up.

We decided on this restaurant on the river which had a lovely location. The temperature dipped and a brisk breeze flowed along the river.

We had blankets and provided by the restaurants and snuggled up to one another as we ate our yummy food. The preparation was hearty and delicious! My burger was excellent and the crepes were a nice ending for dessert. So far, Hungarian food was tasty!
