Every railroad has something special about it. Being fast or having a playground on it, maybe the train does not run on rails or it runs on poop… The list goes on and on and on and on. But the Hugoslövy children’s railroad has something very special in it. It is a children’s railroad. Now you may be thinking , it is a railroad for children and all kiddy stuff might come into your mind. But this railroad isn’t that. In fact it is really just a railroad. But it is 99% staffed by children themselves. Of course which child is going to drive a train 100X bigger than him/her or repair it ? So those jobs are done by adults. The children ticket you, dispatch , conduct , and , maintain the trains. In addition, some of them are responsible for the signalling system, and tracks. They are aged 10 and older (engineers 40>) . It may sound all crazy right? Don’t worry , they were trained in a special class and went through the same exams that the adults do too. In addition, they have to renew their license every year. The children are the top in class who can keep their grades consistent while doing a job on the rails. 😶.
Their seriousness can be obviously seen, but sometimes their kiddy sides can be seen .
Like playing on your phone while your conducting a car. But for the passengers, their entertainment is the fantastic view of Budapest from the buda hills. Other stuff that might make your self inside do this…

- The children doing their tasks
- The tunnel
- The train
- The station
- The museum at Hugoslövy
- The nature trails
- The intervals of the train
- The Soviet influence.
In case your wondering, the whole idea a children’s railway was form the Soviet Union times . Back in the day, it was called pioneer railways . They were built by the local scouts to train young people how to operate the railways. ( In the times of communism, the railway itself was an important economy.)

The train and the signalling system look similar to the KTMB in Malaysia. They use flags and the same train model.![]()
It runs through the forest and hills. When the trees clear, it’s beautiful. You can see the whole city of Budapest. It is almost as big as Singapore! ![]()
The staff at Jengy heggy station. Though there young, they do the work as good as any adults would do. The girl in the read cap is also supposedly a ‘higher’ rank than her peer.

The conductors onboard check tickets and sell soiviners . They also help disbatch the trains in and out of the station. The train travelled through the tunnels where the lights are turned on. On the second ride the lights were turned off and it was pitch black !

When we arrived at the final station , Hugoslövy, there was a railway museum too. Cool! Well done Kids for the great service.
Now once you have heard this your like wow how do I get there? Just take the Cogwheel tram #60 to schengen-Heggy.NOT THE FUNICULAR. Or there are buses. Just look for the sign Hugoslövy. At Hugoslövy there are tram lines 60/51 which bring you to the center of town near the Danube river.
Really hope to come again!
